Dan started his love affair with nature, wood, and music growing up on a farm in the Pacific Northwest. Farm life also gave Dan his sense of self-reliance, as on the farm if you needed something you didn’t run to the local store, you got to work and built it.

So when his love of music wasn’t satisfied with singing and pounding out a tune on the milk cans Dan got to work and built his first guitar (interesting note: Dan gave that guitar to a girl he knew in schooland in 2011 she foundDanand had some repairs done on it. It sounded much better than Dan remembered). The first question was “What’s the best materials suited for a guitar” And today he still asks that same question with every instrument he builds.

Dan doesn’t use pre manufactured materials for his instruments but does not hesitate to give new life to wood that outlived its original intended use. Dan prefers to buy timbers and process them himself. He likes to use woods with a story to tell, Where they came from? How they were harvested or was the wood reclaimed? Dan believes his understanding of the history of the materials he uses in his instruments can be heard by the player as part of the “character” or “soul” of the instrument.

Dan also feels that as a craftsman, one of his life responsibilities is to pass on the knowledge he gained over the years to new builders. Weather they are planning to make lutherie a lifelong career or have a passion to play an instrument that was made with their own hands, Dan is there to help them on that journey. He has taught guitar and ukulele construction through different woodworking schools and local community colleges for over 10 years and plans on continuing as long as he’s building.

So with every instrument you purchase from Biasca Guitars, you’re sure it was built by a craftsman who designs and executes from raw materials, start to finish. From selection of wood to a complete hand polished instrument it was done by one craftsman, Dan Biasca.
